Media and Sports conference
The International Conference on Media and Sport (INCOMES), jointly
organized by the University of Porto and the Universidad Autónoma de
Barcelona aims to address the media construction of mega-sport events
as well as its social, economic and political significance related to
media studies.
The relationship between media and sport has become intermingled over
the last decades and prompted a growing quantity of academic attention
and interest. Indeed, sport and sports mega events, in particular, such as the football World Cup and the Summer Olympics Games, have flourished and grown in importance over the years to the point of being considered nowadays as an important popular content of the media. This has been favored, among other factors, by developments in media technology and the formation of a sport-media-business alliance with implications in terms of professional sport.
Possible topics can include, but are not limited to,:
- the ‘televisation’ of sport
- the representation and identity, gender and race
- globalization and nationalism
- marketing and commodification of sport
- audiences in mediated sports
