The ECREA Temporary Working Groups (TWGs) are fora for discussing topics and disseminating knowledge in sub-fields of media and communication research. TWGs have the same remit as ECREA sections, but TWGs will only be established for a term of 4 years. After the end of the term and upon request of the Chair of the TWG, they can be renewed by the Executive Board for a maximum of 4 more years, or they can be granted the status of a Section. Read more

The 6th European Communication Conference opened with an intriguing opening plenary session featuring Czech band Plastic People of the Universe, followed by keynote speeches from Peter Dahlgren and Sabina Mihelj on Wednesday, 9 November 2016. ECREA Second ECREA General Assembly to be held on 18 July 2016

The Bureau of the Executive Board organised a General Assembly between 20–24 June 2016 in an online space on the ECREA intranet. The General Assembly discussed the introduction of amendments to the ECREA Statutes and as such required two-thirds of working members to be present or represented to gather validly. Since this quorum was not reached, a second General Assembly meeting will be convened on Monday, 18 July 2016 at 12:00 WEST (13:00 CEST) at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias in Lisbon, Portugal. ECREA Executive Board is deeply concerned about the ongoing harassment and persecution of academics in Turkey which followed the signing of a petition critical of Turkish military activities in the Kurdish region of Turkey in mid-January this year. Turkish authorities launched investigation against academics who have signed the petition and are now likely to face charges, a number of them have been arrested in the process, while even a greater number of academics have been harassed at universities and in the social media, including receiving of death threats. The election of a new Executive Board took place during the General Assembly held in Istanbul on 27 October 2012, the last day of the European Communication Conference. The quorum of the presence was not met, thus, a new General Assembly was required to confirm the decisions of the General Assembly in Istanbul with no quorum of presence requirement. This new General Assembly took place on 13 November 2012 at the official seat of ECREA (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium). All decisions of the General Assembly are now legal, including the election of the new Executive Board. Read more

The IAMCR Prizes in Memory of Herbert I. Schiller and Dallas W. Smythe are awarded to students and young scholars every two years at the IAMCR General Meeting.
