June 3, 2027
Glasgow, Scotland
Deadline: December 15, 2026
The Digital Futures for Children centre (DFC) is pleased to announce its second ICA pre-conference, to be held on 3 June 2027 in Glasgow, Scotland, on the theme of “AI and children’s rights” in association with two ICA divisions, Children, Adolescents, and Media and Communication Law and Policy.
This pre-conference brings together scholars and practitioners to explore how research on children and AI can inform policy, regulation and design, and how diverse perspectives from around the world can inform and shape international debates. The event will be highly interactive and engaging, structured around themed discussions, with an inspiring keynote to start and a forward-looking plenary discussion to close.
Researchers around the world are exploring children’s relation to AI and the impacts of an AI-embedded world on their lives, their life chances and their rights. With research grounded in multiple theories, from different disciplinary perspectives, and deploying a range of methods, this is a good time to take stock of what we know, and what we are doing, and to debate which approaches are promising and insightful, and why.
We welcome original research studies addressing the theme of AI and children’s rights from all disciplines, employing empirical methods, relevant theory, and contributing to children’s rights in the digital environment. We invite extended abstracts of up to 1500 words (excluding references and tables). Each abstract must include the following subheadings: research questions, theoretical framework, empirical method, key findings and a description of how the work relates to children’s rights. Six keywords should be identified.
